A Level Results 2018

It has been another hugely successful morning for Stanwell 6th form pupils as they received their A level and AS examination results. Stanwell are delighted that so many Year 13 pupils have done well enough to secure places at their first choice universities and are very proud of the impressive results achieved by so many Stanwell students.

The excellent results are a testimony to the effort and commitment shown by students and staff and stand as further confirmation that excellent standards in learning and teaching continue to be at the forefront of the school’s ethos.
At A level, 37 % of all grades were A* or A, with 83 % of the year group achieving A* to C overall. Of particular note, students studying mathematics were awarded 58 A* or A grades (58% of entry). In addition, the art, chemistry, drama, English literature, film studies, German, media studies, medical science and physics departments were also very pleased with the students’ results, where 75%, 83%, 82%, 76%, 79%, 100%, 78%, 71% and 84% of the candidates secured A* to B respectively.

Overall, there were a very impressive 89 A* grades (11% of entry) and 527 A* to B grades (65% of entry including the Welsh Baccalaureate). Furthermore, 223 students (95%) achieved the Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate as part of the Welsh Baccalaureate.

Excellent A level results have once again put Stanwell students amongst the top performers in Wales, with many individuals securing truly exceptional grades. 61 of them (26%) achieved the equivalent of 3 A grades or better. The school would like to congratulate all students in the 2018 cohort, including, of course, our highest achievers:

Three of the top performers, Caitlin Duggan, Henry Waddon and Catrin Jones, are off to Oxford University to study history and medicine respectively, with Robert Brown securing a place at Cambridge to study Human, Social, and Political Science.

Mrs Clare Kynaston, Acting Headteacher, commented “This has been another excellent year for Stanwell. We would like to congratulate all our sixth formers on their success and are grateful for the support given by parents and staff to ensure that our students fulfil their potential.”

Mr Karl Watkins, Year 13 tutor, also said “We have had a very successful morning and the Sixth Form team are delighted that so many of our students have secured places at their chosen universities. It has been a pleasure working with these young people and we congratulate all of Year 13 on their achievements and wish them continued success in the future.”
