Churchill English Union Public Speaking Competition
Posted on: Friday 07th December 2018
Congratulations to six of our year 11 students who entered the prestigious Churchill English Union Public Speaking Competition which was held at St. Cyres School. David Youngs, Kitty Bax, Max Lindfield, Emily Clarke, Yoav Abramovich and Emily Richard formed 2 teams and took on the roles of speaker, chairperson or questioner. This was the first time Stanwell had entered the competition and the quality of debate and discussion was incredibly high from all the young people involved across 9 teams. Both Stanwell teams were delighted to come 2nd in their respective heats – an amazing achievement! Public speaking is a vital skill that students will use throughout their lives and this was a great opportunity for our pupils to leave the competition having built confidence and experience in articulating their ideas and sharing them with others.
