Key Stage 4
Year 9 and 10 pupils follow the new WJEC specifications for GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature. Controlled assessment has replaced coursework as the internal assessment component. In English Language, pupils are examined on their reading comprehension and writing skills and complete a series of speaking and listening assignments throughout the course which also makes up a proportion of their final grade. In English Literature, pupils are examined on their unseen poetry commentary skills and on three prose and drama texts that have been studied in class.
Year 11 pupils follow the WJEC English and English Literature legacy specification. In English, pupils are examined on their reading comprehension and writing skills and complete a series of speaking and listening assignments throughout the course which also makes up a proportion of their final grade. In English Literature, pupils are examined on their unseen poetry commentary skills and on two prose and drama texts that have been studied in class.
