Celebrating RE Festival: March 2nd 2011
The National RE festival for England and Wales is taking place through the whole month of March 2011. The purpose of the festival is to celebrate and publicise the value and importance of Religious Education in schools. Stanwell hosted the festival to launch the National RE events for Wales on 2nd March and the day was an overwhelming success. Many visitors commented on the outstanding behaviour and work of the pupils.
The winners of a Year 7 competition to find the best Holy Week rap performed on stage to loud cheers and applause and have been invited to perform at ESIS (Education and School Improvement Service) on 10th March. A choir formed of Stanwell students from all key stages beautifully performed a specially written song. The central theme of the song revolves around the RE classroom being a ‘Place of Trust’ or ‘haven’, where young people can learn about themselves and others in a safe and respectful environment. Students from Evenlode, Albert and St Cyres performed on stage as well as a group from Ysgol Bro Morgannwg.
The Archbishop of Wales Barry Morgan delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of RE as a subject and as a means of promoting tolerance and understanding.
