Key Stage 3
- Learn key words as we begin to use them in class. Use the glossary at the front of your booklet to store new words and definitions.
- Explain your answers in full
- Maps, graphs and diagrams are important-always include a key, title, and axis labels
- Learn command words and use them correctly in questions. E.g. Know the difference between describe and explain.
- Follow guidelines when completing levelled work - use the assessment grid provided.
- Always ask for help if unsure and ensure that homework is always completed in the time provided.
Key Stage 4
- Learn case studies as we study them in class. You may want to work on your own revision case study table at home to collate them altogether in topics so revision is easier at the end of the year.
- Learn key words as we study them in class. These are very useful for answering exam questions and gaining a full understanding of all work.
- Always explain your answers in full, using facts and figures to support them.
- Read the comments your class teacher makes on your work. Make a note of these comments on your self evaluation sheet and read them through before completing the next end of topic test in order to improve your grade
- Keep to deadlines set on coursework and homework as not to fall behind.
- Attend revision sessions available.

Key Stage 5
- Read up on case studies completed in class using web addresses; further reading lists and Geofactsheets and Geofiles given by your class teachers. You can also make use of the ‘resource library' - here you can use extra text books, journals, etc to add to your notes.
- Make a case study revision table, writing outline revision notes for each one.
- Learn key command words
- Keep your eye out for recent case studies in the news and keep a cuttings section in the back of your folder
- Work as hard as you can. Take note of the teacher's feedback and refer to it the next time you complete a Past Paper Question.
- For timed essays, always spend 5 minutes taking time to plan carefully, dividing up the plan into introduction, main and conclusion, making a list of case studies you will use in the essay too
- For essays set for homework, it's a good idea to spend time researching and making notes, and then trying to set yourself a given time to complete the essay adhering to the time limit in the actual exam.
- With essays, make sure the conclusion is interesting. Try and think of a ‘sting in the tail' to show the examiner you're thinking about the topic at a higher level.
- Always use facts and figures to support your case studies.
- Attend revision sessions available.
- Be familiar with the WJEC marking criteria that your Teacher will provide you with, in preparation for the real thing.
