Department Overview

Stanwell School ICT Department is one of the major departments in the school. Six fully equipped suites of networked PCs ensure that the academic and research needs of students' are catered for. The latest version of BECTA ICT Mark Accreditation - Awarded for excellence in ICT across the schoolMicrosoft's Office 2007 suite is installed on all PCs as well as Adobe MX Suite, allowing web design, graphics work and animation skills to be developed by the pupils.

Pupils are taught how to use these very latest pieces of software and use these to produce high quality pieces of work, at all levels of schooling.

The safe use of technology is a major focus and pupils are taught the areas where issues could occur and what precautions can be taken in order to maintain their safety on the school's network, internet access and also at home.

ICT across the Curriculum

ICT at Stanwell School extends far beyond the ICT Department. All departments are able to book their lessons into the labs when there are no timetabled ICT lessons. These sessions help students with research and in improving the presentation of their work for a variety of subjects. A new ICT based resource centre is being used by all departments in providing extra possibilities for research, planning and preparing of tasks.

School Network

The whole school is served by a networked ICT infrastructure delivering data at high speed; several servers provide user storage space and security.  Microsoft Exchange email is provided so that all staff and pupils have their own email and designated storage area on the servers. This allows pupils to access their user areas from any PC in the school as well as the ability to access their email from any PC with internet access.

Superfast Internet

The school Internet access is fully equipped with a firewall security system and all pupils access the Internet through a web filter which provides up to date safe surfing of the internet. All pupils are to sign an Internet use contract, which is in the school diary. Together with this contract are rules and guidance for correct use of the Internet and the school's network.
