Phantom of the Opera
As reported in the local press, tickets for the eagerly awaited production of Phantom are going on sale on Monday 28th November. We are anticipating high demand for places so make sure you don’t miss out! Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £7 for concessions. The stars of the show performed at the Millennium centre on Monday 21st November and wowed the crowd around the Tesco stage with some of the famous songs from the musical.
Peter Karrie, 'The World's Most Popular Phantom' as voted by The Worldwide Phantom Appreciation Society, will be visiting Stanwell on Thursday 1st December, to work with Miles Braithwaite (The Phantom) and Fiona Bell (Christine) from the School’s cast. Peter has a wealth of experience having played the role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar and was an original cast member of Chess. Staff and pupils are very excited at the prospect of meeting Mr Karrie.

As reported in last week’s update, pupils and staff enjoyed a non-uniform day to raise money for Children In Need and Jeans for Genes. Through donations, cake sales and games activities, the grand total raised was £3295! Many thanks to all who helped make the day such a success. Stanwell pupils also made an appearance on the BBC during the Children In Need Friday evening programme when handing over the cheque. |
Trips and Competitions
Year 12 and 13 Welsh AS/A level students attended 3 day sixth form language course at the Urdd centre in Glanllyn from November 21st to November 23rd. Year 11 students will be participating in a Science Trip on Monday 28st November and Tuesday 29nd November to London. The purpose of the trip is to listen to professional speakers from the Science World. All of the speakers will provide excellent subject knowledge linking into the Triple Science specifications. RE Club is going creative! We are entering a national competition entitled ‘Spirited Arts’ and creating pieces of art in many different mediums in response to the question, ‘Where is God today?’ Come along and join in on Monday in G32. The Design Technology Department entered pupils’ work in a Clothes Show competition to design a poster based on the theme ‘Rule Britannia’. Three of our pupils have been short listed for this competition and have been invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Clothes Show on Tuesday 6th December where the winner will be announced. Short listed pupils were Jessie Preece, Amanda Dave and Milissa Sorenson. The pupils have done extremely well to get this far and have been chosen as part of the national top 10.
