Washington Gallery Exhibition

Pupils from Stanwell School are currently exhibiting some of their exciting and imaginative work at the Washington Gallery, Penarth. The age of the pupils exhibiting ranges from Year 7, who have produced some vibrant Celtic inspired mono-print  illustrations, to Year 12 who have produced varied and interesting responses to the theme of ‘Changes in the Human Figure’. The show runs until the 29th of January 2012 and has been well received by the public.

 

New facilities

 

Pupils and staff have been enjoying the new facilities available after completion of an ambitious building project. The new build includes an iPad room and a lecture theatre with Macbook Pro facilities which provide exciting new learning opportunities for pupils. In addition, the DT department have two new state of the art technology rooms, one with iMacs which contain the latest graphic deign software and another which is equipped with Macbook Pro facilities and cutting-edge textiles machines. The new facilities also have Wi-Fi technology throughout.

The rooms have been fully booked which demonstrates the enthusiasm for using technology to develop and support learning here at Stanwell.

 

P.E. and Sports Fixtures

  

Fixtures – Mon 23rd Jan – Yr 11 Football v Fitzalan (away), Tues 24thBoys Cross Country County Championships (Trelai Park) 2pm. Wed 25thYr 7 Football v Llanishen (home), Yr 10 Rugby v Bro Morgannwg (home).

Badminton competition: Congratulation to the pupils who participated in the 5X60 Vale Schools Badminton competition. Two separate tournaments were run, Year 7&8 boys and Year 7&8 girls. Teams were made up of 4 pupils, all playing a mixture of singles and doubles matches. The boys team of Morgan Jones, Sam Jones, Frazer Wilde and Rhys Wookey played well but came up short against St Cyres (eventual winners Cowbridge).There was a superb result from the girls’ team of Megan Lim, Grace Samuel, Sophie Egerstrom and Tatum Nurse, who won all their games and beat Cowbridge in the final to bring the trophy back to Stanwell.

 

IT London trip

 

The ICT department took Year 12 Computing and ICT students to the BETT exhibition at the Olympia in London.

The event showcased all the latest technology and software from companies such as Microsoft, Google and Apple. Pupils also had the opportunity to experience a number of seminars on the future of technology in education.
