RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND COLLECTIVE WORSHIP POLICY

Religious Education at Stanwell is taught in accordance with Welsh Office circular 10/94.

The subject provides the opportunity for pupils to learn about the world, the community and the people in it, enabling choices to be made and issues discussed that touch upon everyday life.

Pupils are encouraged to develop their understanding of the spirituality within themselves which creates individual human beings.Opportunityis provided for pupils to learn more about the way in which religion can play an important part in their lives and the life of their country.

The beliefs and values of others are studies in order to develop respect for an appreciation of the similarities and difference between people.

Religious Education aims to stimulate interest and enjoyment in the subject. It enables pupils to study a body of religious knowledge, principles and skills, while at the same time contributing to their moral, social and ethical development.

Collective worship is mainly of a broadly Christian character and takes place each day, giving pupils the opportunity to explore and share beliefs, consider the importance of prayer, meditation and silence while appreciating the importance of religious beliefs.

Each week the school considers a theme which encourages a sense of community at the same time provides the opportunity to re-affirm, interpret and put into practice the values of the school and celebrate the achievements of members of the school.

A variety of learning experiences provide pupils with opportunities to discuss matters of personal concern, develop relationships with adults and peers, challenge by exploring the beliefs of others, while deepening their own knowledge and understanding of their own faith or beliefs.

Stanwell recognises that parents have, under the 1944 Education Act, the right to withdraw a child from Religious Education and or collective worship. Any parent wishing to exercise that right should contact the appropriate Year Tutor.
