Year 13 Psychology students attended the ‘Science and Pseudoscience’ Conference in Bristol and had a very enjoyable day. The aim of the conference was to explore the scientific nature of the subject and some of the topics in Psychology that have been investigated and explained in a scientific way. The students listened to some fascinating presentations. They learnt about the psychology of magic and what it is about our brains that allows tricks to work. They also explored the effects of dance on health and well being (including being taught their own routine!) and watched a live hypnosis demonstration as well as discussing how this method can be used in a therapeutic setting. They were also given the opportunity to take part in some live demonstrations of the scientific method in psychology.
