The GCSE Science course at Stanwell is accessible to pupils of all ranges and abilities. The courses currently on offer are Applied Science, Double Award Science and Separate Science and all are done using the WJEC specifications.
Applied Science:
• BTEC First qualification in Applied Science follows the Edexcel specification with a view to all pupils achieving a level 2 (GCSE equivalent) qualification. The students will develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of How Science Works by; collecting and analysing scientific data, testing ideas and developing theories, using scientific models and ideas, collecting data, including the use of ICT sources and tools, working accurately and safely, individually and with others, evaluating validity and reliability of evidence, presenting information using scientific, technical and mathematical language and studying the use of contemporary science and technological developments.
Double Award:
• Candidates entering for the GCSE Science qualification will complete three external unit assessments plus an internal teacher assessed task in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The GCSE Additional Science qualification consists of another three externally assessed units plus a further internal teacher assessed task in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Separate Science:
• The Separate Science qualifications in Biology, Chemistry and Physics each consist of the relevant subject units from the GCSE Science and GCSE Additional Science qualifications and a further externally assessed unit for each Separate Science plus a further internal teacher assessed task in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
