Year 7 - County Champions

The Year 7 cross country team have had a brilliant start to the year, winning both the Cardiff & the Vale Cross Country League and Cup.

They have trained and competed throughout the winter in all conditions and their hard work, commitment and determination has paid off.

After the first match, Stanwell finished second as a team to a strong Llanishen High squad.  At the second match the Stanwell team raised their game to win by a narrow margin, putting them top of the league by 1 point.  The efforts put in during this race meant that Spencer Robinson, Will Marsh, Ben McCulloch, Alex Langrish, Cameron McJennett-House and Will Gale all received County selection, and they went on to represent Cardiff and the Vale at the Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships.

During November the team travelled to Brecon and entered the Welsh Championships.  Facing strong competition from all over Wales the boys picked up valuable experience of running against seasoned athletes.

During the long, cold and occasionally snowy winter months the team trained regularly focussing on their stamina and speed endurance.   Their hard work shone through in the last league match, where all of the Stanwell athletes improved their individual performances meaning that as a team they won by a considerable margin securing the County league and cup double for the first time.

Following this performance Spencer Robinson, Ben McCulloch and Will Marsh received their second county selection and are due to compete in Brecon in March.

There will be a presentation evening in the near future where all of their efforts will be recognised and rewarded.
