1. Key Skills (60 hours)

  • Communication
  • Application of Number (Timetabled)- 2 tasks to complete
  • ICT (proxy)
  • Problem-Solving (PSE)- project for post AS exam period "What will I do after Sixth Form?"- structured task linked to UCAS application
  • Working with others (PSE)- linked to Team Enterprise activity
  • Improving Own Learning and Performance (PSE)- to be completed in post exam period (January) with Personal Tutor

 

2. Wales, Europe and the World

  • Political Issues
  • Social Challenges and Responses
  • Impact of Economic and Technological Change
  • Heritage and Cultural Perspectives

60 hours of guided learning time includes visits, "hands-on" sessions, visiting speakers etc.  4 issues to be evaluated in Advanced Diploma Diary.

  • Language Module- Spanish (20 hours)- 12 hours teaching time plus 8 extra hours independent study
  • French, German, Welsh (2nd Lang) A Level students exempt

 

3. Work-Related Education

  • Working with an employer (30 hours)- week beginning 14th / 21st June 2010
  • Team Enterprise activity (30 hours)- completed in first half term. Students must be available for the afternoon of Open Day

 

4. Personal and Social Education (30 hours)

  • Positive Relationships
  • Health and Emotional Well-Being
  • Active Citizenship
  • Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship

PLUS

  • Community Participation (30 hours)- diary to complete each week

 

5. Individual Investigation

  • Personal study into an area of particular interest- to take place in post-AS examination period in June

6. Personal Tutor/ Learning Coach

  • 1 interview per half term- diary to complete

WBQ Features

  • No examinations
  • WBQ= 120 UCAS points (equivalent of grade A at A Level)
  • 2 year programme
  • 80% covered in Y12
  • Only 20% to do in Y13
  • Variety of learning activities (DVD, discussion, visits, group work, outside speakers etc.)

 

 

HOW YOUR SON/DAUGHTER CAN BE A SUCCESSFUL WBQ/A LEVEL STUDENT

  • Embrace all aspects of the WBQ with a positive attitude.
  • Prepare for the future/ UCAS application- LISTEN in assembly, check the "opportunities" noticeboard, be proactive and research careers etc.
  • Get involved and broaden horizons.
  • Make sure they achieve a very high attendance record (including the post exam period in June/ July).
  • AS Levels ARE a step-up from GCSE so make sure they work hard from the start.
  • Engage in independent learning through private study, research, self-reliance, responsibility.
